Workforce Strategy Case Study
Situation
Our client designs, implements, and operates supply chain and logistics
solutions that assure the mission - critical readiness of its government and
military clients. Those clients look to Our client to provide the products,
supplies, and equipment they require - at the precise time and place they need
them.
For civilian government agencies Our client acts as a "prime vendor", providing
a broad range of services that include:
-
Product development
-
Product sourcing and procurement
-
Warehousing and inventory management
-
Fulfillment
-
Administrative and financial controls
Our client differs from its competitors in its ability to deliver individual
employee orders rapidly and accurately and in the proprietary software it
deploys to control individual employee spending allowances. Our client supports
military outsourcing and privatization efforts by applying its extensive
logistics management expertise to specific client support requirements. Unlike
its competitors, who are typically large military contractors dabbling in
logistics support activities; Our client is an established logistics management
specialist of long-standing. The breadth and depth of our logistics management
experience results in unique solutions which not only deliver the "best value",
but which also can be implemented quickly.
The entire Logistics Group have the opportunity to grow and expand their
business by adding additional government contracts. Ray & Barney
Group was engaged with OUR CLIENT to take a look at the current state of their
resource requirements, systems, tools and organization structure. The goal of
this engagement was to identify the current state of OUR CLIENT and what
changes in organizational structure could be made to help create a model that
was scalable and could handle future growth.
Ray & Barney Group found that OUR CLIENT had a solid foundation in existing
delivery methodologies with each contract, but they run independent of one
another and there is a gap in the sales focus of the organization.
Approach & Solution
Ray & Barney Group employed a Practical Phased Approach, first introducing
an in-depth look at the current organizational structure. This included a focus
on employee job responsibilities, system requirements and tools/reporting
analysis.
We engaged by performing a job analysis with each employee through interviewing
and discussing their job responsibilities and challenges within the
environment.
From here we documented and revised all job descriptions to better understand
where there may be overlap in responsibilities and areas where there may be
skill gaps. This exercise helped us to create new options for organizational
structures and the benefits and limitations of each structure. We involved the
stakeholders at each phase and gained team buy-in through out the process.
Through this engagement we were able to:
-
Review and Revise Job Descriptions
-
Review and Revise Organizational Structures
-
Document Key Performance Drivers
-
Outline and Highlight Performance Issues
-
Identify Resource Gaps that will drive Recruiting Initiatives
-
Recommend new Streamlined Structures
Client Benefit
OUR CLIENT received a Jump Start in a forward looking view of the
organization’s existing value and limitations and how to address those issues
on a go-forward basis. Terry Smith has an option to now grow the organization
in a scalable fashion that will allow his existing department to support more
business versus less. OUR CLIENT is able to be positioned to drive more
government business and repeat successes while continuing to satisfy clients
and deliver projects.
Financial Impact / Return on Investment
Increased employee effectives, higher productivity, optimized resource plan,
and a scalable solution to support ongoing business.
